The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reappointed Christopher Musa Danjuma as the Head Coach of the U20 Women National Team, Falconets. This announcement comes after a meticulous screening and interview process conducted by the NFF Technical Committee, which culminated in their strong recommendation being approved by the NFF Executive Committee.

The process was thorough and transparent, beginning with a one-week public notice inviting applications from qualified candidates. Short-listed candidates were subsequently contacted and interviewed by a panel from the Technical Committee.

Danjuma’s return to the Falconets coaching role is well-deserved. His previous tenure saw him lead the team to the quarter-finals of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica, demonstrating his ability to nurture young talent on the international stage. Notably, Danjuma has also taken temporary charge of the Senior Women National Team, Super Falcons, on multiple occasions, further underscoring his leadership in women’s football.

Assisting Danjuma in his coaching duties will be Mansur Abdullahi, a former U20 and U17 girls’ assistant coach, and Effioanwan Ekpo, a former Super Falcons midfielder with an impressive track record. Ekpo’s illustrious career includes representing Nigeria for a decade, participating in FIFA World Cup finals, the Olympics, and winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Completing the coaching team is Yahaya Audu, who returns to his position as goalkeeper trainer. His expertise will play a crucial role in developing the Falconets’ talent.

The Falconets are gearing up for their 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign, which begins with a second-round, first-leg match against Mauritius in Saint Pierre on Sunday, 8th October 2023. The return leg is scheduled for the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, on Saturday, 14th October 2023.

As preparations unfold, Christopher Musa Danjuma and his dedicated coaching staff are determined to lead the Falconets to success in the upcoming World Cup finals, set to be hosted by Colombia in 2024.
